You might find it difficult to move forward in life if you find yourself constantly getting triggered in everyday life. This might look like freezing in the face of an incredible business opportunity, feeling fearful of deepening intimacy in a new relationship, or avoiding asking a friend for support when you’re struggling. These instinctual response patterns can keep you stuck in endless loops of powerlessness and defeat.

When you react to a stimulus, or “trigger”, the reaction comes from your body, not your mind. Talk therapy alone is said to be an ineffective treatment for managing triggers and recovering from trauma because it focuses solely on the mind and trying to think your way to a new perspective. While new perspectives can be useful, they will not create lasting changes until they are integrated into the body, where our reactions truly come from.

My approach to trauma-informed psychotherapy focuses on bridging the gap between the body and the mind, the past and the present. By using a somatic, or body-based approach for healing and transformation, you can finally unravel from past experiences, embody new patterns and beliefs and weave a new path forward.

Talking to you has been more helpful than any other time I’ve done therapy. You’ve provided honest feedback and insight. I’ve become more kind to myself, developed more realistic expectations of others and have a better understanding of why I feel the way I do about things. I’ve uncovered the roots of why I have struggled to feel “good enough” for most of my life. You’ve helped me transform my perspective and not take the comments of others personally. I’ve found what I really want to be doing with my life by pursuing a master’s degree in teaching. I’ve learned new ways to communicate with composure. I’ve learned tools in session that I’ve used in between sessions to navigate life with more ease. I’ve made more progress in the relatively short time I’ve been with you than in years of therapy before this. Your personality makes me feel comfortable sharing things with you that I haven’t shared with anyone else before. - female, 38
