The Process of Transformation

The process of transformation can feel incredibly comfortable. It can look like clinical depression, with intense periods of isolation, low motivation, confusion and increased intrusive thoughts. Sometimes people notice having more thoughts about death as a result of your system experiencing an “ego death” or a grieving of the “old way” of operating. People undergoing a personal transformation typically feel like they’re “going crazy” because they lose interest in the ways they used to operate in the world and haven’t yet established a “new normal”.

Because the process of transformation can include cycles of low mood and high mood fluctuations, western medicine sometimes pathologizes this process, labels it a clinical mental health issue and administers medications to suppress the process. The suppression of this process usually does not alleviate the organic process unfolding within. Instead, people can experience heightened levels of inner tension and turmoil, as the process that wants to naturally unfold over time is coming up against the suppression of it.
